Why is Glass Jar Better than Plastic for Storage?
Coconut oil is advertised by some people, who are particularly interested in natural food as a healthy fat. It is also a great alternative to other forms of fats and can be used for oil pulling, besides baking and cooking in many countries.
If you use coconut oil only for oil pulling or gargling, there is no need to buy this item in bulk. However, if you need a lot of it for cooking and other purposes, you can save big money, when you buy this oil in large quantity. You need not worry about its shelf life, because coconut oil can be stored in shelves, small rooms or closets for 2 years and it remains stable and suitable in quality.
With regards to storage jars, the most common containers are made of plastic and glass. If you will have to choose between the two, the best option would be glass jars. However if you insist on using plastic jars or containers, find those that are BPA-free (BPA stands for Bisphenol A). It is an industrial chemical that may cause harmful compounds to be introduced to the stored coconut oil.
While high cooking temperature will not affect the life of coconut oil, it should not be stored under direct sunlight, especially when you use plastic packaging to store it. The reason being plastic melts with heat. In addition, putting the oil in the refrigerator will turn it into a solid state, which becomes difficult to use.
